Maya Devi Temple

Maya Devi temple is one of the three Siddhpeeths in Haridwar which is a must visit holy place for the devotees of Divine Mother. The temple has three icons, Goddess Maya is placed at the center, Goddess Kali is on the left however Goddess is on the right. In accordance with the religious belief the king Daksh did not invite the lord Shiva and affronted him, as a result Sati (wife of lord Shiva and daughter of the king Daksh) got angry and burnt herself in the ‘Hawankund’(altar). The lord Shiva sent his combatant ‘Veerbhadra’ to destroy the ‘Yagya’ and Siva himself elevated the burning body of Sati and flew in the sky. It is believed that the heart and the navel of ‘Sati’ fell at this place. Haridwar is also known as Mayapuri due to this temple of Maya Devi.  The pilgrims visit the temple in order to make the goddess happy and get their wishes completed.
