Kedarnath Dham (केदारनाथ धाम ) is one of the most sacred pilgrimages of Lord Shiva. Kedarnath is one of the 12 famous Jyotirlings of lord Shiva. It is one of the holiest shrines among Hindus and was first built by Pandavas to appease lord Shiva after the battle of Mahabharata. It was later rebuilt by Adi Shankaracharya. The shrine is surrounded by high snow covered peaks, and is located at a height of 3584 mts. above sea level. It stands at the top of, Mandakini river and provides a soothing and calming effect on the minds of visitors. The shrine is dedicated to ‘Sadashiv’ or the invisible form of lord Shiva and is seen in a 3-sided conical rock structure. The best time to visit the shrine is from September to November. You can travel to Kedarnath by foot, mule and palki. There is also helicopter service available from Agasytamuni and Phata but the ride will miss the scenic beauty and visit to Gauri kund.
